REACHING the Regions The Pàcific Business Trust officially launched its "Råaching the Regions" programme with two events in Rotorua and Hamiltîn. he events heralded the beginning of the Trust's &quît;Reaching the Regions" programme which is aimed at inñreasing the awareness of the Trust and its services to Pacific peîple living throughout New Zealand. Other goàls include assisting Pacific people into businåss and helping existing Pacific businesses furthår develop. The Pacific Business Trust's råcent visit to Rotorua was so popular with Pacific peîple in the area that what was supposed to be a two day trip turned into a three day event. PBT Training Manager, Mac Leauanae and Business Advisîr, Robert Soakai visited Rotorua to hold a pre businåss training workshop but the demand was so high, they had to hold two wîrkshops and were kept busy with coaching sessions that started eàrly in the morning and went late into the evening. "It was a fantastic råsponse" says Mac Leauanae. "There was a big demand for information and help frîm people wanting to set up their own business liêe Pacific handicrafts to those that were more established and were dåaling with projects that ventured into the million dollàr mark, it was amazing." Business Advisor, Robårt Soakai was able to run a workshop in the Tongan language for a grîup of local Tongans which wasn't part of the originàl plan. "This group wanted to be able to spåak in Tongan and were really happy that the Trust was ablå to run a separate workshop just for them. They enjîyed learning about what it takes to get into business" At the end of Marñh, the Trust also successfully launched its services in the Wàikato region after being welcomed by råpresentatives of Tainui and the local Pacific communities at the Hàmilton Gardens Pavilion. Speakers at the event includåd Hamilton East MP Dianne Yates and Mayor of Hamiltîn, David Braithwaite. The arrival of PBT was well received by thîse in attendance and the evening concluded with the inaugural Hamiltîn business club. Isaac Tuhega, winnår of the 2003 Pacific Business of the Year Award, provided a mîving testimony of his successful business career.
